Sonia Walsh

Sonia has worked for HMPPS for 30 years and has Governed HMP Warren Hill and HMP Wayland.

Sonia started at HMP Holloway, then progressed to HMP Whitemoor, Littlehey, Highpoint and Wayland as the Deputy Governor. She also spent 3 years as the Operations Manager to the East.

Sonia has considerable experience within the service, especially in working in difficult complex establishments. Within her career she has worked within a Special Secure Unit, Close Supervision Unit, a Personality Disorder Unit and spent 11 years in the High Security Estate. The remainder of her career has been within the Category C estate.

Sonia graduated at Sheffield Hallam University with a Post Graduate Certificate in Leadership and also has experience within the field of Gestalt Psychotherapist. She has continued to work with universities such as Cambridge and Leicester to enable research to be used in positively shaping environments within the establishments she has worked in.

Sonia has been progressive in developing and driving change through the use of rehabilitative culture and the four principles of Procedural Justice.

Summary

She is an experienced leader who takes her role very seriously. She is passionate about changing lives and delivers results, this was evident during her tenure at Warren Hill. She leads with energy and enthusiasm and infectiously engages those that follow her to believe in the same vision. She has strong links with external partners and agencies and this is reflective in the ethos of the establishments that she has governed.
