Dr. Kristian Mjåland

Kristian Mjåland is Associate Professor of sociology at the University of Agder (Norway), and a visiting scholar at the Institute of Criminology, University of Cambridge (UK). His current research involves a comparative study of penal policy and subjective experiences of imprisonment in England & Wales and Norway (the ERC-funded ‘Comparative Penology project’ at the University of Cambridge). Kristian earned his PhD in Sociology from the University of Bergen, Norway, in 2015. He has been involved in several large research projects, exploring issues such as compulsory care towards drug users; drug use, drug economy and offender rehabilitation in prisons; and open-air drug markets.
