Mr. Benjamin Chia
Commander, Cluster B | Singapore Prison Service
Benjamin has spent the last 23 years working in various capacities in the Singapore Prison Service. During his tenure, he had served multiple ground operations stints and served as a trainer in the staff academy. He was Head of Operations Planning, helmed two prison institutions and served as Director of Strategic Planning before the current appointment as the Commander of Cluster B, a group of 5 prisons.
Benjamin was instrumental in starting the Selarang Park Community Supervision Centre in 2009 which pioneered community corrections effort. He was also seconded to the Ministry of Social and Family Development and helped set up an inter-ministry coordinating unit for national youth-at-risk efforts in 2010. In recent years, Benjamin was also deeply involved in the renewal of the vision, mission and core values of the Singapore Prison Service.
Benjamin holds a Business degree from the Nanyang Technological University, a MBA from the University of Nottingham and a Master of Criminal Justice from the University of Western Australia. Being keenly interested in change and organisational development, he has a Graduate Diploma in Change Management and Organisation Development Certificate Programme from the NTL Institute for Applied Behavioural Science. He actively practices organisation development work to the betterment of the Service and society. He has presented at international and local platforms on corrections issues and Singapore Prison Service’s transformational journey.
